Collaborating Across Departments: The Impact of Multidisciplinary Teams Within an FLS

Despite the rising number of patients with fragility fractures, it is estimated that only 9 – 20% of patients who sustain an initial fragility fracture eventually receive osteoporosis treatment. Effective care within Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) based on strong collaborations between departments can help close this treatment gap. Multidisciplinary teams, such as nurses, physicians, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and administrative staff, work together to optimise patient care pathways, reduce re-fracture rates, and improve patient outcomes.

In this course, Professor Manju Chandran discusses how FLS teams can strengthen cross-departmental collaboration to deliver more efficient, patient-centred care. She also shares real-world experiences and provide practical strategies for fostering clear coordination and communication amongst all healthcare departments.

Key Learning Objectives of this course include:

  • Understanding how multidisciplinary teamwork benefits patient outcomes in FLS
  • Learning practical techniques for enhancing collaboration between FLS and other healthcare departments
  • Identifying common challenges in cross-departmental collaboration and exploring strategies to address them
  • Learning from real-world successful models of FLS care
