Dr. Luca Sangiorgi is an Italian physician and the director of the Rare Skeletal Disorders unit at the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna. He earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna in 1988, specialized in oncology in 1991, and completed a PhD in medical genetics at Sapienza University of Rome in 2005.

He has worked at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute since the early 1990s, first as an oncologist and later in leadership roles related to genetics and family studies. He also served as a visiting scientist at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, United States. In addition, he teaches medical genetics and medical bioinformatics at the University of Bologna.

Dr. Sangiorgi coordinates the Rizzoli rare disease center and several national rare disease registries, with a strong focus on rare bone disorders and European specialist networks. His publications cover clinical genetics, oncology, and rare diseases, and he has contributed to international medical literature.
